Multiplying Ministry

As always, this summer has been exceedingly busy with hosting missions teams. In May we hosted a team from International House of Prayer University (IHOPU) led by Robert who worked with us last year. In June Eliot and Marcell from Eastern Michigan University Chi Alpha helped with outreach at various Tokyo campuses. From June 26-July 6 a team from Kalama Valley Assembly of God, Honolulu, Hawaii, taught ukulele classes and hula dances as outreach. After that, a couple of girls from IHOPU returned to help finish out the school term.

God opened up an amazing opportunity for the Hawaii team. Yuri, Chi Alpha staff member, works at the University of Tokyo’s International Student Engineering Department. When the department’s summer party plans didn’t work out, Yuri was asked if the department could join our Hawaii-theme outreach party. Instead of reaching 20 students, over 300 students attended the party, along with the faculty and office staff, and danced hula to Christian music. We were able to share the gospel with the office staff.

We also trained 4 summer English teachers in Tokyo before sending them to various churches in Japan for 2 months of ministry. Two were students from Northwest University in Seattle and the other 2 were school teachers who gave their summer vacation to missions.

This month our campus ministry team (Joyce, Yuri, and I) attended Encounter 2010, the international Chi Alpha conference held every 5 years since 2000, in Budapest, Hungary. Over 30 nations representing 500+ participants gathered together to connect with God and be empowered for ministry. We took part in a city-wide outreach in Budapest after the conference.

Next month, Amanda Fosburg will join our ministry team as a short-term worker. She just graduated from college in Oklahoma and feels called to missions in Japan. She will be with us for at least 11 months. Please pray for our transition and ministry as we await her visa approval and arrival.

Without a doubt, God is sending workers, and sending workers requires a sending team. Thank you so much for being the support team that makes it possible to multiply God’s Kingdom in Japan! May we all continue to grow in God’s grace and in the knowledge of Him as we fulfill Jesus’ command to go make disciples everywhere.
